Born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay Jp Bonino started taking pictures of punk rock shows. His father who used to be a photographer taught him how to handle light and how to see with a different perspective certain moments that sometimes pass unnoticed to the eye.
The creative spectrum of the Uruguayan photographer JP Bonino is extensive: the same is mounted on the table as an amateur skateboarder who records the globe in search of capturing snapshots, sharpens the lens in fashion shootings or exhibits in different galleries in Buenos Aires or Barcelona, where he lives currently. His work fluctuates between intense, sometimes contradictory, emotions that are not afraid of the sudden transformation of opposites. When looking at Juampi’s photos, sometimes there seems to be only a flicker between the absurd lyric and the most poignant existential homesickness: in his images, everyday situations coexist, almost invisible, a force of repetition over and over again, although maximized by his own theatricality.
Becoming increasingly more perceptive and versatile he worked for many clients like Nike, Dropbox, Coca-Cola, Vice, Samsung, to name a few. In fashion, he shot several campaigns of Cher, Complot, Lee, Levis, Lacoste, Dickies, Converse and editorials for important magazines as Tank, It’s Nice That, ID Spain, À Part, etc.
Currently, he is into the 3D scan, creating from an Instagram filter to study a mix of self-portraits and parallel worlds that internet discards because of errors, glitches, etc.
